I am writing this testimonial with an extremely heavy heart. I am appalled that my coach, Enda Fitzpatrick’s legacy in DCU would end in such an unwarranted and abrupt way.
I met Enda in January 2017 at the DCU Schools Invitational Cross Country. Enda chatted with me asking about my plans for college and where I wanted to take my running career. If it wasn’t for his enthusiasm and interest in developing athletes into reaching their full potential, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
It is because of Enda that I have met my irreplaceable training partners who have pushed me and helped me through the toughest of times. We have all been privileged to be mentored by both Enda and Anne Keenan Buckley who have priceless knowledge about the sport, but also irreplaceable compassion to all athletes.
Having struggled with numerous injuries over the course of a year, Enda always kept me in great sprits and hope. His support to me during that time was so invaluable.
I cannot comprehend how a man of such class, stature and vision is being taken out of a position where he is so much needed. How can you possibly advertise such a position to other people? A position where Enda has accomplished so much and can achieve so much more in the future for DCU Athletics.
Enda’s importance in the DCU athletics family is simply incomprehensible for those who are not part of it. How can I put into words this the difference that one man has made to so many people’s lives?
My dreams thus far have come true because of Enda Fitzpatrick. He has taught me dedication, team spirit, motivation and hard work through not only words but through his relentless dedication. It is vital to the DCU Athletics future that DCU management retract their decision.
Sincerely,
Lauren Tinkler
